Are you an undergraduate student interested in conducting research at state-of-the-art institutions in the United States or foreign country?
Are you an undergraduate student looking for a summer opportunity to advance your research experience?
If so, check out the National Science Foundation's Research Education for Undergraduates (NSF-REU) site program. You and 9 other exciting undergraduate students will work in a research program of a host institution. You will be assigned a specific research project while working closely with faculty scientists, graduate students, and lab technicians. As a NSF-REU scholar you will be granted a stipend and possible assistance with housing and travel.
My amazing experience as a 2008 NSF-REU scholar at the University of Wisconsin La-Crosse (UW-L) in La Croose, WI had inspired me to become a biomedical scientist. My research mentor was Dr. Jennifer Miskowski, a Biology professor at UW-L. For my summer research project I determined if NUD-1protein was required for proper sperm development in C. elegans. As a NSF-REU scholar I participated in educational workshops, improved my networking skills, and made lasting friendships. After successfully completing my project I presented my work at 2008 UW-L Research Poster Day, 2008 University of Texas at San Antonio College of Sciences' Research Conference, and 2010 Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students.
The NSF-REU has many sites to choose from.
