The 14th Annual Association for Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics (AOPT) Meeting

Updated: Aug 5, 2019

Are you interested in becoming a member of a diverse not-for-profit organization that has members from pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, academia, clinics, and private practice?

If so, consider becoming a member of the Association for Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics (AOPT) organization. The mission of AOPT is to serve as a global forum and network for the publication and exchange of knowledge on treating eye diseases, promote advancement of research and scientific progress in ocular pharmacology and therapeutics, and assist researchers and eye-care professionals in understanding how to effectively treat ocular disorders.

AOPT is a global not-for-profit organization for biomedical scientists, students, preclinical and clinical scientists, and healthcare professionals. Thanks to the president of the 2019 AOPT meeting, Dr. Thomas Yorio, and board of directors the AOPT meeting was a success. I also was awarded a Travel Award from the National Institute of Health-National Eye Institute for the AOPT meeting.

Attending my first AOPT meeting in New Orleans, LA at the Hotel Monteleone on March 7-10, 2019 was rewarding and a positive learning experience for me. I presented my poster on my research titled "TGF-beta 2 & TLR4 Crosstalk in the Glaucomatous Trabecular Meshwork". Throughout the conference I have gained knowledge from scientists at state-of-the-art research institutions and universities about a wide variety of topics including but not limited to: how pharmacokinetics, metabolism, translational research, new drug delivery methods can facilitate in treating ocular diseases.

Sessions:

1. Therapeutic Modalities in Ophthalmology

2. Inflammation in Retinal Degenerative Diseases

3. Gene Therapy Approaches in Treating Eye Diseases

4. New Orleans, Louisiana Ophthalmic Research

5. New Approaches for Treating Age-related Macular Degeneration

6. Latest Development in Neuroprotection for Glaucoma

7. Advances in Ophthalmic Drug Delivery

8. Novel Therapies for Corneal Diseases

9. What Every Ophthalmologist Needs to know about the FDA

10. Ophthalmic Tools and Methods

The meeting also included an educational Lunch-N-Learn Roundtable discussing how to setup and run a new lab in academic setting and a Lunch Symposium discussing on how one can Maximize collaboration between academia and industry.

If you are interested in submitting your manuscript of your work in an well-respected journal, consider the peer-reviewed Journal of Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics (JOPT). JOPT is a peer-reviewed journal that includes biomedical, preclinical, and clinical research of drug activity that pertains to preventing and controlling diseases and pathologies of the eye.
